Thankful for Community

This week I’m giving thanks to our community. I am fortunate to work for a company that cares so much about the community that I live and work in. At 1st Financial Federal Credit Union, we’re committed to helping the communities we serve, and I am grateful to be a part of such a great mission. This is what real community looks like.

Community Partners: Our community partners are the backbone to our mission and the credit union’s philosophy of “People Helping People”. I am so thankful that 1st Financial offers employees 8 hours of paid volunteer time each month to serve our community partners. In June, we teamed up with the Little Bits Foundation to volunteer in their warehouse assembling student orders and local school kits. There’s no better feeling than when you’re able to help make a difference in a child’s life by removing some of their barriers to education. How awesome is that!

50 Acts of Cooperation: I say this all the time… I have the best job ever!  This year, we’ve been celebrating our 50th anniversary with 50 Small Acts of Cooperation. 50 Acts of Cooperation was born out of the idea that when we work together we can accomplish great things. I’m thankful that I’ve had the opportunity to help make each of our 50 Acts come to life. Just this month, we went to a gas station near our St. Charles branch and bought gas for some lucky people in our community. The expressions on their faces were priceless, but one lady really stood out to me that day. You see she had been hit pretty hard by life lately. That afternoon she decided to pull off into the gas station to grab some gas and take a minute for herself. When we walked up to her vehicle her eyes were closed so we quietly tapped on the glass and asked if we could buy her gas. Immediately she began to cry and tell us how much our small Act meant to her. I was taken back by her emotions and just felt overwhelming grateful to be a part of this mission of giving back. I’m thankful this holiday season for the small acts of cooperation that help make a difference in our community every day.

50 Years of Dedication: Over the years, 1st Financial’s name has changed to reflect the growth of our community. However, today, my credit union has served hundreds of thousands of people in our communities by providing them with important financial products and services that they need. I am thankful for the dedication of our members, our community partners, and our employees who have shaped my credit union over the past 50 years. Without all of you, 1st Financial would not be what it is today.

As I sit down with my family for Thanksgiving this year and look at the blessing that I have, I’ll be extra thankful for everyone who’s working hard in our community to make it a better place for everyone. I’m thankful to be a part of the change we need.

Always be thankful,
